There are several ways to apply craquelure to gingerbread. The craquelure effect is a spectacular and beautiful coating of cracked gingerbread. I want to show one method that I often use myself. The surface of the gingerbread can be made not only in white, but in any other color that you need for subsequent decoration of a cake or other desserts. After drying, proposed in the recipe, the craquelure on the gingerbread keeps very well and does not crumble. It is necessary to dry such a coating in a natural way, without placing it in the oven. A step-by-step recipe with a photo will help you quickly master such a simple coating technique.

For work we need:

• 1 tablespoon water-soluble, white, liquid dye;
• ½ st. a spoonful of cornstarch.

How to make white craquelure on gingerbread at home

We prepare any gingerbread dough and cut out the desired shape using cutting. We bake the gingerbread cookies in the oven until fully cooked, according to the time and temperature indicated in the recipe.

Meanwhile, mix food coloring and starch in a bowl.

We mix the components and get a uniform texture of confectionery craquelure.

We take a flat wide brush and apply a mixed coating on the surface of the finished gingerbread. Strokes are done in one direction.

We leave the gingerbread cookies in a dry room until the craquelure is completely dry.

A completely dry finished coating should not leave a fingerprint when touched. And most importantly, the craquelure on the gingerbread should crack and give your baked goods a beautiful texture.
