Velor coating of cake, pastries and other desserts at home
Velor topping for cakes or desserts is a beautiful and trendy alternative to traditional icing and is easy to make at home. You only need two ingredients and a fat-soluble gel color if you decide to make colored velor. If you want to get a dark coating, then instead of white chocolate, feel free to use dark chocolate with a cocoa content of at least 72%. My simple master class and step by step photos will help you decorate your homemade velor cake quickly, easily and simply.
To prepare the coating for cakes, we need:
- 70 grams of white chocolate;
- 70 grams of cocoa butter;
- gel dye (fat-soluble);
- airbrush for applying velor coating.
How to make velor cake topper at home
Melt the cocoa butter in the microwave or steam bath.
At the same time, melt the white chocolate in another bowl. Add 4-5 drops of fat-soluble gel dye and mix everything until a uniform color is obtained.
Then, add the melted cocoa butter to the tinted chocolate and mix them together.
How to make a velor coating of a cake or pastries
Pour the resulting mass into the container of the spray gun. The working temperature of the velor coating should be 34°-36°C.
In order not to stain the walls when working with velor, I use an ordinary large box in which I place a frozen (!) Cake on a hill.
It is necessary to work with an airbrush at a distance of 20-25 cm from the surface to be coated.
When one side of the cake is ready, turn it and continue to velour.
When the cake is completely covered with velor, transfer it to a cake stand / dish. You can continue to decorate it further, or you can leave it as it is. You need to cut velor cakes with a sharp and hot knife.
To supplement this simple step-by-step master class, I suggest watching the video. Yuliya Small in her short video tutorial gives a simple and complete overview on how to make a velor coating on a cake at home. You will quickly and easily learn how and where to buy an airbrush, how to prepare velor, how to properly apply velor on a cake, and also about what additional devices for neat work you can easily and simply do with your own hands. The author will not disregard such a simple method of coating the cake as velor in a spray can. In short, I suggest watching the video. 🙂
The author Alex & Milana will complement the previous author and not only show how to make a velor coating on a cake, but explain in more detail how to choose the right one and how easy it is to work with an airbrush, without which a beautiful velor coating of a cake simply won’t work.
I hope you learned everything you wanted to. 🙂 Look for links where you can purchase the necessary equipment and products under the author's videos on YouTube. Delicious desserts!
